Good food!

This wasn’t one of our favorite meals in Hoi An, but it was still good! Took a little while for everything to come out even though it wasn’t very busy. Worth a try if you’re in the area, but wouldn’t go out of the way.

Best place you'll eat in Vietnam

Chickpea was incredible, so happy we found this place - lovely, friendly staff. Food was amazing, we had fresh spring rolls, tempeh skewers, bao buns and more. The first night we came, there was a cooking class finishing up, so we booked on to do it two days later. I would have come back to eat here every day if I could, unfortunately they were closed on the Thursday and we had some trips booked that meant we were away for food.

On the cooking class - Ha was so friendly, she took us around the market showing us things, letting us smell herbs and spices. We bought fruit and other products to use in the cooking class. Ha also told us about local life, traditions and culture, not just food! Her instructions were great, the class was fun and enjoyable. The class was 1 million VND (about £32) and was about 5 hours. It was so worth it! I would recommend everyone do this class 😊

Pros: Fresh, tasty food, Friendly staff, Great atmosphere

Final feast

I totally went large for my final Vietnamese feast at Chickpea Eatery. It’s tucked away down one of the back alleys so don’t miss the turn and miss out on this place because it’s amazing.

Everything clean, sugar free, freshly prepped and nutritious.

Easily the best summer rolls of the trip, and I’ve had sooo many. Dipping sauce was bang on. I had the cashew cheese vegan platter too, the most expensive thing I’ve eaten but totally worth it. My son chose the tempeh screwers and pancakes: a winner for him too. Friendly staff. Very cute space. Lots of geckos.

Amazing Vegan food

We did the Vegan cooking class with Mai and her sisters and it was absolutely fantastic. She took us down to the food markets and showed us around, gave us recommendations for stalls to shop and tips to avoid accidentally eating non-vegan in Vietnam.

Then took us back for cooking where her passion shines through in her personality and brings her cooking class alive.

Mai and her team did a great job teaching us and making sure we had an absolute blast. I would do this cooking class every time I came back to Hoi An and I’m not even vegan.

Thank you for taking our trip to Vietnam to the next level!!

Pros: Mai’s cheeky attitude, Ethically sourced food, Eco friendly

Cons: Nothing, Nothing, Nothing

Wonderful place and great food

Lovely quiet restaurant with Buddhist and mindful ideas everywhere from the menu to the toilets!
Incredible food - some cheap and some more expensive - ranging from traditional Vietnamese (I had Cao Lau which was incredible) to sourdough fake meat sandwiches.

Take a bao

Great bao buns and use of tempeh overall. Casual dining spot away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist filled streets. Plenty of options.

Pros: Lots of choice, Casual dining, Bao buns are amazing

Cons: No cold water

so so tasty and clean

food was amazing and super clean! the stench was almost unbearable, must be sewers nearby, unlike other smells on the streets of vietnam. waitresses were nice, although we had to ask 3-4 times for extra things like ice. here for 7 days and defiantly will be returning!

Pros: traditional food tray , rice paper rolls , bao bun

Cons: the stench of the restaurant , forgetful waitresses

What being vegan is about

They have a concept and they're doing it beautifully! They are ethical about their veganism, it's not just about healthy food. Family vibes, delicious food, creative recipes. It was a pleasure to be surprised too, like trying the chickpea tempeh lemongrass skewers.
We ate there a few times and were actually sad that we didn't get to one last time before leaving.

It was good!

I stopped in the other day and tried the bao buns, summer rolls, and chickpea bowl. The ambiance of the restaurant is quite lovely and staff was very friendly. The food was plated beautifully and tasted good. I would stop back and try more if I stayed longer in Hoi An.

Great location, not really our taste though

The location is so beautiful and peaceful, but we didnt really like any of the four dishes we ordered too much. It was alright but we had much better food in vietnam. My husband even said it was the worst food in 2 weeks but we liked the beetroot cake for desert. 5 stars for the location 3 stars for the food.

Pros: Location , Desert, Price was ok

Cons: Food was just not our taste

Beautiful!

Beautiful ambience and background music (Buddhist chants). The menu is more like a magazine and I really enjoyed learning more about the family behind the business, their thought process around veganism and how they continue to serve the community.
The food was simple and flavorful.

The only reason I docked a star was because of the slow service and many items on the menu not being available (no coffee/ tea/ hot drinks were available when we went and when we asked for just hot water (we are struggling with a bad throat), the server had to go back to check if she could give us hot water. Seemed a bit weird for a small family run business. Also, the table by us didn’t get 2 items from their order for the longest time and finally just gave up and left.

Overall, I did enjoy it and would come back but did want to point out some of the service issues to set expectations.

Must go! Honestly the best!

I have tried so many places and this cute hidden spot is so worth it

Update:
Came back again and I am still a fan! Even more maybe. You can’t be in hoi an without trying this. I tried this time:
Banh xeo - delicious! Crisp and not oily! Wished for more herbs though. Amazing peanut sauce & great size
Bao Buns - delicious - so tiny, but packed with flavours and ingredients. A great appetizer. Hopefully a big version soon. Could eat a lot of them haha
Fresh spring rolls - had them twice since they are amazing: full of healthy fillings and no noodles!
Crispy spring rolls with salad: delicious and this peanut sauce is to die for! I wish I could participate in their cooking class to create this
Smoothie: I had their dragon fruit blueberry one and mango instead of banana and it was stunning

Best staff, delicious food and just a true gem! You gotta go

You HAVE to go
I am speechless
The whole atmosphere is lovely. They love what they do, they’re super friendly, love good food that is healthy and wholesome & vegan
Super delicious and makes you feel satisfied and happy- feels like heaven eating here
They don’t use any sugar and you can taste all the different ingredients
Bun dau mam Tom is what I have ordered - it’s a plate full deliciousness: some tofu, vegan fish cake(!), mango, cucumber, carrots and pineapples lettuce and noodles, some wrapping paper if you like and also the best spring rolls and best peanut sauce I have had in my life
Full of flavour, not greasy or oily
Enjoying crispy spring rolls without oil and the greasy feeling is heavenly!
They serve free water, are more than kind, have wifi and their juices are also good
I’m pretty sure every dish is on point
I’m Impressed!

Must try in hoi an

As others have said the food here is delicious! Definitely pricier than other cities but still worth it. We tried a big variety of dishes with the favorites being the banh xeo and the beetroot brownie (just tasted of chocolate cake). The other dishes were also really nice: banana cake, con lao and cauliflower Alfredo. I really liked the hot choc but it was very rich so not for the faint of heart. The only dish I thought were just fine were the bao buns, I found them a little small and lacking sauce.

Vegan Vietnamese go-to in Hoi An

I was so happy to find this place while in Hoi An. It's down a little alley and super genuine. The sauce for the Cao Lau is really good and their portion sizes are large. They are motivated by community and commitment to the earth, and I will definitely be back when in Hoi An😄

Pros: Vegan versions of central region Viet food , Has tempeh , Vegan cashew cheese

Cons: Some dishes a bit salty
