Mostly vegan restaurant, quite fresh & tasty - Edit
Great restaurant for those with dietary restrictions, especially if you're vegan and/or gluten-free. Flax & Kale is a gluten-free pescatarian restaurant, and about 80% of the menu is plant-based/vegan. All plant-based dishes are clearly labelled. The food tastes fresh and nutritious.
Read moreThe kale Caesar salad was pretty ordinary, and the dressing was lacking in salt. There was no plant-based bacon as listed on the menu, and when I asked my server, he brusquely said, "That's the old menu. It's changed now." That was a bit disappointing... The Caesar salad definitely wasn't filling enough for a meal, so I had to order another dish. I wouldn't recommend the Caesar salad, and it's quite overpriced at 13.50 euros!
The vegan chicken Pad Thai was very delicious, however, and it came in a generous, filling portion. All their desserts are vegan as well. I loved their matcha cheesecake.
Decent selection of local wines, including cava. Their vegan wines are listed as well, which was greatly appreciated. Their house white wine was crisp and refreshing.
This restaurant is on the pricey side - it came to 115 euros for 4 people. Apart from the minor issue with the Caesar salad, I enjoyed my experience and the staff were overall quite friendly and spoke English well. Chic ambiance and convenient location near the city center.

Simply mindblowing. They’re food scientists. - Edit
Where do I even begin? Flax & Kale had a wide variety of whole-food based plant-based dishes that completely debunk the notion that satisfying vegan meals require heavily processed ingredients.
Read moreLet’s run it down:
- “Foie” starter plate. The most mindblowing vegan foie gras (in pate form) that’s an ABSOLUTE must-try.
- Braised broccoli & muhammara. Giant, entire head of broccoli charred to perfection on some good kickass sauce.
- BBQ ribs tacos. Jackfruit based ribs with cinnamon sticks. Tortillas were a bit dry, but other than that, perfection.
- Dumplings. Didn’t expect the level of creativity in it — super colorful and flavorful. As an Asian, though, I would’ve liked more chew.
Definitely also don’t miss out on the full vibrant Kombucha menu😄

This place has a nice energy and atmosphere for slightly more sophisticated dining in Barcelona.
Read moreMy husband and I enjoyed the roasted veggie platter we ordered for an appetizer. I really liked the entree I ordered (“Asian cacio & pepe”) but found the portion was smaller for an entree. My husband ordered the pad Thai and found it to be just okay and a little bland in flavour. I had the lemon pie for dessert, which was delicious. I’m not sure that we would eat here again ourselves, but it would be a great spot to eat with non-vegan friends or family who could also enjoy items here easily. On the pricer side.
Pros: Nice vibe
Cons: Small portions

SUPER Accommodating - Edit
This place accommodated our party of 20 at the last minute! We got a private room on the second floor, next to the rooftop garden!
Read moreEven though the menu was VAST, my friends and I were all accommodated based on our dietary preferences and allergies. The menu has an entire English section and a chart of all the known allergies so it’s easy to find which foods to order. Everyone found something that fit their needs!
I ordered the Braised Broccoli to start off with. It was evenly cooked, the texture was phenomenal, and it was very well-seasoned 5/5 from me and those I shared it with. I also ordered the Malaysian Butternut Squash Curry 10/5 it was SOOO GOOD!!!!!
The drink I ordered was the Digestive Elixir 3/5 in terms of taste. Did it work? No clue.
For dessert, I ordered the Carrot Cake which was alright 3/5. But I tried a bit of a few of the other desserts from my friends. The Passion Fruit Cake was bursting with flavors 5/5. The Chocolate Mousse Ice Cream and Berry Cheese Cake were both 3/5 each but combined together was a little bit better than 5/5.
A few times, the waiters got confused about our orders and even insisted on taking back our food even though it was the correct one. But overall, the food was amazing and the service was descent considering we had a huge party.
Pros: Allergy chart - plenty of delicious options , Accommodating even with huge party , Very nice environment
Cons: Confused waiters

Lots of Great Vegan Options - Edit
We came here after traveling for 18 hours, so we were really tired but had a nice, quiet and delicious dinner here. They brought us some free kale chips while we were waiting. And we liked our food. 4 stars because they are mostly but not completely vegan.

Healthy vegan food - Edit
This is a great whole food plant based options for those looking to take care of their gut health. The food is a little more on the expensive side compared to some vegan places. However, nothing over the top and for the quality and how nice and upmarket it feels its definitely worth it. The service was also 10/10 for me.

Another great find in Barcelona. The food was great, casual and very tasty. Service was friendly and efficient and the space looks new and modern. We had a great evening. We went on a Saturday night and it was busy with a small queue which didn’t take long so maybe consider booking. Overall a nice experience. Dog friendly too.

Had the “my vegan japanese girlfriend bowl” which tasted amazing, it’s a plate with jackfruit and black rice. And I also had the cheesecake, which is also gluten free, I loved it! Cute and cozy place, very friendly staff. I’ll definitely come back to try more dishes. #Veganuary

Wow. - Edit
@flaxandkale.es has got to be the best, most inclusive, gender affirming business concept that we have ever come across. The parents of the current CEO started with the idea of living in “Paradise” everyday in Barcelona. What that means now with Flax and Kale being the Flexatarian Flagship restaurant and juice bar chain in Barcelona is that the world is ready for all inclusion, neurodivergent, LGBTQ , and food preferences together at last. #inclusivedesign #inclusivedining #lgbtqia #nonbinary
